At Texas A&M University-Kingsville's Military & Veteran Resource Center, our mission is to deliver authentic customer service and reliability to our veterans, service members, and their families. We aim to optimize the educational opportunities accessible to our learners and offer our veterans a fulfilling transition from their college experience into their professional careers.
Incoming and Returning students
Students planning to use military-affiliated resources should inquire with the Military & Veteran Resource Center before registration to obtain the necessary information regarding their enrollment and attendance certification for the Veteran Benefits Administration. All new students must provide the Military & Veteran Resource Center with all required documents for their certification set by the office and awarding agencies.
Request for Certification – Our Online Request for Certification (ORFC) is an online form that allows students to request the use of their education benefits for the academic year. Access to the ORFC is available on the Military & Veteran Resource Center website and must be completed before any certification requests can be processed. This form initiates the student’s benefit review process by submitting the required documents. The review includes verifying the number of credit hours the student is enrolled in, modality of the courses, and ensuring that all registered courses are required under the student’s current degree plan as reflected in DegreeWorks.
Certificate of Eligibility – A VA Certificate of Eligibility (COE) is a document issued by the Veterans Benefits Administration that states which benefit you qualify for and for how long. This document is required for most federal education benefits and may be needed for some state benefits. For any questions on how to obtain a COE, review of a COE you received, or on how to appeal a decision made by the VA, please visit our MVRC office.
Degree/Course Changes - Students must contact the Military & Veteran Resource Center regarding any changes to their enrollment (e.g., Add/Drop, Withdrawal, Change of Curriculum). Notifying our office promptly ensures that student accounts and benefit certifications can be adjusted in a timely manner and allows our staff to explain to students any potential impact on VA education benefits.
Federal Veteran Education Benefits
Visit our office to learn about the eligibility requirements for VA education benefits. VA education benefits are here to assist you with a variety of financial assistance for your education goals.
Post-9/11 G.I. Bill® (CH. 33): This benefit provides financial support for education and housing to individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service on or after September 11, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have received an honorable discharge to be eligible for the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill® (CH. 33).
Transfer of Entitlement - Post-9/11 G.I. Bill® (CH. 33 TOE): This option of Ch. 33 offers eligible service members the opportunity to transfer their Post-9/11 G.I. Bill® to dependents. Active-duty service members who meet certain enlistment requirements will be able to transfer their educational benefits to their spouses or children starting Aug. 1, 2009.
Montgomery G.I. Bill® (CH. 30): This program provides up to 36 months of education benefits. This benefit may be used for degree and certificate programs, flight training, apprenticeship/on-the-job training, and correspondence courses. Remedial, deficiency, and refresher courses may be approved under certain circumstances. Generally, benefits are payable for 10 years. Following the Rudisill and Perkins Supreme Court Decision, veterans who paid into the MGIB and have multiple periods of service may be eligible for additional months and time.
Veterans Readiness and Employment (VR&E) (CH. 31): The VetSuccess program assists Veterans with service-connected disabilities in preparing, finding, and keeping suitable jobs. For eligible Veterans with service-connected disabilities so severe that they cannot immediately consider work, Vet Success offers services to improve their ability to live as independently as possible.
Montgomery Selective Reserve G.I. Bill® (CH. 1606): This benefit is an educational program for active members of the Selected Reserve. Eligible recipients receive a monthly stipend based on enrollment status. The Department of Defense determines CH. 1606 eligibility. Basic eligibility requires a six-year obligation to serve in the Selected Reserve and satisfactory participation in required Selected Reserve training.
Edith Nourse Rogers STEM Scholarship: The Edith Nourse Rogers Science Technology Engineering Math (STEM) scholarship allows eligible Veterans and dependents in high-demand fields to extend their Post-9/11 G.I. Bill® or Fry Scholarship benefits. This extension can add up to 9 months (or $30,000) to your award.
Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (CH. 35): This program provides up to 36 months of educational benefits to eligible spouses and dependents. If you’re the child or spouse of a Veteran or service member who has died, is captured or missing, or has disabilities, you may be able to get help paying for school or job training through the DEA program.

Texas Education Benefits For Veterans and Dependents
Texas Hazlewood Act & Texas Hazlewood Legacy Act - The Hazlewood Act is a State of Texas benefit that provides qualified Veterans, spouses, and dependent children with an education benefit of up to 150 hours of tuition exemption, including most fee charges, at public institutions of higher education in Texas. This does NOT include living expenses, parking permits, or books and supplies. Legacy recipients will receive an exemption for the number of degree-certified hours reported by the institution for that term or semester. Maximum degree-certified hours awarded to the Legacy recipient will be determined by the degree or certificate program in which the student is enrolled and shall be consistent with the program length as defined within the school catalog as approved by the regional accreditation commission. (40 TAC §461.30)
*If a child who received transferred hours fails to use all of the assigned hours, a Veteran may re-assign the unused hours that are available to another child. Only one child may use Hazlewood Legacy benefits at a time.

VolEd Partnership
Department of Defense Voluntary Education Partnership Policy
Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK) is committed to supporting the educational goals of our nation’s Service Members through participation in the Department of Defense (DoD) Voluntary Education Partnership Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This agreement between TAMUK and the DoD Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness outlines the university’s responsibilities in accepting Tuition Assistance (TA) funds from each Military Service branch in exchange for providing quality educational services.
To remain in full compliance with the MOU, Texas A&M University-Kingsville adheres to all relevant DoD Voluntary Education program guidelines. This includes responsible practices in recruiting, marketing, and advertising; transparent and fair financial operations; maintaining institutional accreditation and appropriate credentialing; and offering academic advising and support for post-graduation employment opportunities.
