Campus Governing Bodies
The Student Government Association is the highest governing body for students at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. It makes recommendations to the university administration for improving student life. The student government is composed of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches. The student body elects the President, Vice-President and the Senators during a general student election held each spring. The Dean of Students or his/her designee advises the SGA.
The Faculty Senate, established by the Constitution of the General Faculty, is a body of faculty members elected from the undergraduate college and the library. The Faculty Senate is an advisory body to the President regarding education policies and non-curriculum matters to the university.
The Staff Council was created in 1990 to promote a positive, collaborative work environment via assessment, prioritization, and communication of staff needs to achieve the University's strategic goals. This Council represents Texas A&M University-Kingsville staff and reports directly to the University President.
The Graduate Council shall be the body responsible for recommending policy standards, criteria, regulations, and procedures for graduate study following policies of the Board of Directors, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, The Texas A&M University System, and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. It is the responsibility of the Graduate Council to review all proposals for graduate degree programs and courses and, at its option, existing programs; to establish and review the criteria for membership in the Graduate Faculty. Furthermore, the council is to establish the minimum admission standards, the standards for continuation of graduate students, and the residency requirements; to act upon petitions and appeals from the decision of the Graduate Dean; to consider any other matters relevant to the College of Graduate Studies; and to authorize, recommend or instruct the Graduate Dean to take appropriate actions to effect the results of its decisions.
