General Studies, B.G.S.

Find your advisor

The purpose of the Bachelor of General Studies is to allow students some flexibility to pursue individual interest that may not follow a typical degree path. Students will receive all the foundational and marketable skills associated with a liberal arts education (writing, critical thinking, leadership, problem solving, and the ability to work with others) and the option to seek specialty knowledge in disciplines from across the university.

Students pursing a degree in General Studies will take at least 18 credit hours in two different subject areas, 9 of which must be at the advance level. They must also meet the College of Arts and Science's requirement of 36 total advanced hours. Subject areas may be selected from any college within the university, but all 18 credit hours must come from the same subject area (they must all have the same four-letter code). A minimum grade point average of 2.0 is required for each subject area.
